What is surrealism?
Surrealism artworks explored the subconscious areas of the mind. They often can not make sense because they are usually trying to depict a dream or random thoughts. The meaning of surrealism is 'above or beyond realism'. Surrealism started in the mid-1920s in France and was born out of the earlier movement, Dadaism from Switzerland. It reached its peak in the 1930s. Dadaism started as a reaction against the society after WWI and the artist of the surrealism movement liked the idea but started to concentrate more on the subconscious mind.
